their latest poll yesterday and found in the state of ohio it's president obama leading mitt romney right now by nine points. the other big home state newspaper poll was from the des moines register. according to that poll, the des moines register poll in iowa, president obama is leading by four points. there are a ton of national tracking polls out today. and spoiler alert, they all show president obama ahead by a few points. in terms of the senate races, that same columbus poll out of ohio that shows president obama ahead it shows sherrod brown leading by ten poin ing to tza warren and scot brown debate in massachusetts, we'll beki abthata moment, there's a new poll out today in acttt elet enr scott brown by two. in pennsylvania, a newspaper poll released over the weekend put the democrat in that race bob casey ahead of his republican challenger by eight points. as mitt romney's, shall we say, second place standing starts to look like more and more of a permanent residence as it seems like a long shot for winning the presidency, the down ticket effect of that is starting to become a bigger

into this debate very realistic that mitt romney is likely to win, if he plays his cards right. if he performs and fills in those details and has that conversation with the american people instead of having, you know, a punching match and just leveling insults at the president like he's done over the past two years, if he fills in his policy details, talks in specifics about his plans for the future, he could win this debate. but you know what, the president is treating these debates the same way we treated the conventions. that it's not about just that night. it's about an ongoing conversation with the american people. it's not just about the people in the room or the people, no offense to cnn, in the cnn booth. it's about the people sitting at home and the type of conversation that we want to have with them over time. it's a continuation of that conversation about where the president wants to take this country and his specific plans to move us forward. >> talking of conversations, he chose to appear on "the view" in the last week rather than talk to world leaders here in new york. any regret

problem, lots of big problems for mitt romney right now, but this 47% thing. if you're barack obama, as he has been doing these attack ads the last few days, he will hammer mitt romney over the head throughout this debate about 47%. if he doesn't, he's mad. because it's an incredibly powerful hammer to use, because whichever way you try and spin that, it was a disaster. he called half of the country a bunch of scrounging victims. what does mitt romney do if barack obama does that? >> mitt romney has said a couple things since, piers. the first thing he said was that was me, not my campaign. he actually took responsibility which i appreciate when a grown man says i'm sorry, i made a mistake. number two, number two, his campaign is all about 100% of america and here's what he meant. he said it was inelegantly stated but i agree, not just the president will take him to task on that but i think the debate questioners will ask him. but romney should look at that as an opportunity not to be defensive again but to explain precisely what he meant. the other thing that he really should do here is i

presidential nominee mitt romney are out west right now getting ready for their first debate this wednesday. there are a total of three presidential debates scheduled. the first one at the university of denver set to focus on domestic issues. it comes as the new national poll from "the washington post and abc news finds president obama leading 499% to 47% nationally. that's well within the margin of error. but national polls don't actually tell it the whole story because this election will be decided by a handful of swing states. both are spending a lot of time and a lot of money president obama is opening up some sleedz. this first debate could give the president more momentum or help governor romney reverse the trend and shake up the race. both campaigns are trying to down play expectations of what we'll see on wednesday. we have team fox coverage tonight ed henry on the president. first, john roberts covering governor romney's campaign for us. i know they are down playing expectations, john. but what are we expecting in the way of debate preparations now? >> in terms of debate preparatio

? apparently not. chris christie is right about one thing though. mitt romney must accomplish a lot on wednesday night to begin to alter this race across the board. romney's team is loading him up with a bunch of zingers for the debate according to to "the new york times." romney has memorized these zingers and has been practicing them on aids since august. romney obviously did well enough in the primary debates to make it this far, no doubt. although most of his competition wasn't as tough as president obama. romney also had some memorable moments. >> i'll tell you what. $10,000 bet? >> i'm not in the betting business. >> the answer is self-deportation, which is people decide they can do better by going home because they can't find work here because they don't have legal departmentation to allow them to work here. >> i can't have illegals. rick, i'm speaking. i'm speaking. you get 30 seconds. this is the way the rules work here is i get 60 seconds. and then you get 30 seconds to respond, right? >> well, let's bring in democratic strategist chris ko kn kofinis and susan del percio.
